Today the Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Agricultural Projects expressed his profound joy as he joined in the harvest of Tomatoes and other cash crops at Eni Farms in Uyo.
The Governor's Aide popularly called "The Face of Agriculture" by grassroot Farmers in Akwa Ibom State was received into the bountiful harvest by Mr Langua Brezhnev, an Agric consultant who is consulting and managing the crop farm for Eni farms Ltd.
Speaking while receiving the Governor's Aide Mr Langua said they are in their first harvest Season, the Agric expertrate said the farm started as a demonstration farm and that they are also experimenting on other crops like Carrot, Chinese Carbage, Cameroon Pepper, Radish , Cucumber and Beet Roots.
He said that Akwa Ibom Soil is very good for tomato planting stating that tomatoes can be planted at any time of the year in Akwa Ibom,
Mr Langua further stressed that Tomato planting is seasonal in Northern Nigeria because of their dry soil but Akwa Ibom soil can grow the crop all year round.
The hard working SA was full of joy as he thanked Mr Langua believing in Akwa Ibom Soil, he thanked him for taking time to test the soil and bringing his proof through the bounty harvest of tomatoes and other crops in Akwa Ibom Soil.
The Governor's Aide said "if this is our first harvest from a demonstration farm then there is hope for more when we take our time to plant with keen care and faith"
He expressed total faith in the Agricultural future of Akwa Ibom State and The Governor Udom Emmanuel's drive in the Agricultural revolution of Akwa Ibom State saying "with the way we are going, before Governor Udom Emmanuel's tenure is over Akwa Ibom shall not only produce food to feed our state we shall feed Nigeria".
Hon Armstrong Moses promised to recommend to his principal the Governor to also declare a State of Emergency on Tomatoes cultivation in Akwa Ibom State the same way he declared on Cocoa cultivation.
About 10 full baskets of tomatoes was harvested today by the SA and the team.
The SA thanked the Governor Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for initiating the Agricultural Revolution in Akwa Ibom state stressing that the drive is yielding results as many farms are harvesting bountifully this season, he called on Akwa Ibom Citizens to take advantage of the drive and go into farming.
Hon Armstrong stress that with the dwindling fortune in the oil sector and the fall of the Naira the best business for a right thinking man is farming stressing that the future of Akwa Ibom State is in Agriculture.
