AKWA IBOM: Ikono Council Boss Prioritises Staff Welfare, Seek Improved IGR

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikono Local Government Council, Honourable Itoro Columba has assured the staffers of the Council of the Committee's readiness to partner with them in achieving optimum excellence in the council.
The Chairman gave the assurance during a familiarization tour at the Council earlier today.
He reminded the workers that, for the committee to succeed in their task, everyone must contribute their inputs to achieve excellence in the council. He reminded them of the fact that, a new era has come and the way of doing things must also change.
The Chairman also reassured the workers of better welfare packages and charged any staff member with useful ideas to bring them to the table so that they can move Ikono forward.
"If it was the tradition in the past that things were not good before, now that I'm here, things are going to be better. We will try our best to improve on the welfare of the workers in the council"
"The Governor has succeeded in harnessing the little resources available in the state to make sure that workers in in the state receive their salaries as at when due".
"It's going to be a question of the carrot and stick approach in the council. We will not tolerate laziness or truancy in this administration.
Let us try to reciprocate the government gesture by being diligent in service"
"We will explore all available Internally Generated Revenue in the council, so that we can fix what is lacking in the local government. I want to assure everybody that, anybody who comes up with a good idea on how to generate IGR in the council will be adequately motivated" "We appeal to you to cooperate with us so that at the end of our tenure, we will leave lasting legacies behind".
In her response, the Head of Service in the council, Mrs Rita Akpan, assured the Chairman of the full support of workers in council and restated their readiness to work hard to move the council forward.
In her remarks, the NULGE Chairperson in the council, Comrade Mercy Umoeka expressed her delight in the appointment of Honourable Itoro Columba by the State Governor and promised that, the workers will cooperate with the Committee to achieve success in the council.
She also used the opportunity to highlight the various challenges faced by workers in the council and appealed to the Chairman to look into their plight.
