AKWA IBOM: LEADBRAND LIMITED HOST WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY 2016


By: Soso Connect In December 2014, The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 15 July of every year as World Youth Skills Day. This Event commemoration flag off was first observed in July 15, 2015 at various centres by different institutions acknowledging the strategic importance to say YES to skill development as a primary means of enabling young people to make a smooth transition to work. The call for skill awareness was reportedly rooted from the UN Estimates of the Unemployed Youth Global Indices of over 115.3million in 2013; this alarming figure of which lives in Developing Countries becomes a pivotal concern of the United Nations General Assembly proposed by Sri Lanka.

To demonstrate the charter commitment, World Skills International, Netherlands constantly persuades countries, institutions and government about the importance of investing in Youth Skills Development in line with upcoming Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030, which proposes two (2) goals on Education and Skills for Employment. In Nigeria, Leadbrand Limited attended a smooth session to commemorate the World Youth Skills Day celebration at the United Nations Information Centre, Lagos, where Strategic Policy Dialogue Term Sheet for the Federal Ministry of Education for compulsory Skills Education in our Pre / Post Primary Schools.


In Akwa Ibom State, Leadbrand Limited in Collaboration with World Skills International, Nigeria and African Centre for Skills Development (ACSD) have initiated consultation with stakeholders to complete rounds to host this year’s World Youth Skills Day ; amongst effort were courtesy calls on Dr (Mrs) Marjorie George Abasiodiong Jp, Senior Special Assistant on Skills Acquisition and Development Centre, Comrade Otobong Aquila Akpan, Special Assistant on Student Matters and Hon. Iwa Udofia, Senior Special Assistant on Youths Development to Governor of Akwa Ibom State to inaugurate the project Central Planning Directorate to mobilize supports and endorsement for the World Youth Skills Day, Friday 15 July 2016.

Skills Rules the World is the theme of World Youth Skills Day,2016, is expected to tackle the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) 17.5million youth unemployment ratio representing 6.65% of the World unemployment figure. Secondly, the Event shall create awareness for skills development, attracts and opens up market windows and encourages investment / investors for skills as alternative to dwindling oil market price and economic prosperity of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria. The event promises to host Nigeria Coordinator of World Skills International (WSI), expected to declare the event open is the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr Moses Ekpo, OON others as Strategic Guest Panellists include Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, Hon. Mrs Eunice Thomas, Mr Ronald Kakanja-Director, United Nations Information Centre, Lagos as Guest. Business Magnet and Founder of Amaecom Global Limited, Dr Marcel Ofonmata and others will be presenting lectures at the event, with lead skills expositions by Akwa Ibom Skills Youth in diaspora.
