Mr Ekere A group named Niger Delta Youth Advocacy Group has written an open
letter to President Muhammadu Buhari requesting for the replacement of Mr Nsima
Ekere as the managing director of the NDDC.
Obong Nsima Ekere is a former deputy governor
of Akwa Ibom state Obong Nsima Ekere is a former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom
state Ekere and Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba were nominated by President Buhari as
the managing director and the chairman respectively of the Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC) on Wednesday, July 20.
The president had gone ahead to send the name
of the duo to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation.
The Senate has however gone on recess delaying
the confirmation.
In the letter which was titled NDDC: Urgent
need to replace the nomination of Nsima Ekere, the group opined that the
appointment manifests all that is wrong and lop-sided. Part of the letter read:
”Both the minister of budget and national
planning, Udo Udoma and Mr Nsima Ekere are from the same Ikot Abasi local
government area of Eket Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom state. ”In fact they are
from the same ward and live on the same street. Add to the fact that the PDP
governor, Mr Emmanuel Udom is from the same district and you will see that all
the other zones have been neglected.
”Both the appointees were card carrying
members of the PDP until after the presidential elections of 2015, after which
Nsima Ekere tactically decamped to APC while Udo Udoma has still not declared
for APC.” The group pleaded with the president to reverse Ekere’s appointment
with any core APC member, adding that Ekere and his ilks are PDP members.
The letter was signed by the president general
of the group; Comrade Timothy Ogini, secretary-general; Comrade Donaltus
Akpofure and public relations officer; Comrade Ekong Akpan.
