Former Akwa united FC technical adviser Patrick Udoh has revealed the secret behind the club producing bright and promising players in the Nigeria Professional football League (NPFL).
It is no doubt that his team Akwa Starlets have produced more talents earning a leaving as first team players earning a living in the NPFL and across Europe and have been responsible for the development of over 25 players currently playing in the NPFL.
The likes of Emem Uduok, Mfon Udoh, Daniel Etoor, Godspower Enefiok and the rest started their football career with Akwa Starlets and have grown to become household names in Nigerian football. Mfon Udoh till today holds the NPFL highest goal scorer record.
The arrangement is for players to spend two or more years within the developmental programme of the club (Akwa Starlet), before moving to the senior team (Akwa United); and Udoh thinks other clubs in the league should emulate the Akwa Ibom State football development Project.
“It’s something we have worked hard to achieve and we are glad we are getting the necessary results. We have been able to produce many talented players through this project and we won’t stop there as we will keep on producing them”
“Some of the players in the Team B (Akwa Starlet) will soon move on to the senior Team (Akwa United) next season, and we will keep monitoring their progress. It’s just something many clubs should look into, as they don’t need to keep buying players every season; as they can always promote some players from their Team B ” Udoh told
