Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped nine places to 70th position in the
latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking, according to latest release by the
World football governing body on Thursday in its Zurich headquarters.
Nigeria also was demoted from the 61st position in the last month
ranking, and now 17th in Africa, behind countries like Congo
Brazzaville, Uganda and Benin Republic respectively.
Nigeria’s World Cup group opponent, Algeria maintain Africa’s number
one position, followed by AFCON champions Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and
Senegal in second, third and fourth positions. Egypt, Tunisia and
Cameroon (another Nigeria’s group opponent) occupy fifth, sixth and
seventh positions respectively. Morocco, Congo DR and Mali completed the
Africa’s top 10 positions.
In the world ranking, Argentina, despite losing the Copa America
title in the final maintain the top position, Belgium, Colombia, Germany
are in the second, third and fourth positions. Copa America champions,
Chile are in the fifth position, Euro 2016 winner, Portugal moved to the
sixth position, while the France, Spain, Brazil and Italy make-up the
top ten positions in the world.
Meanwhile the next FIFA /Coca-Cola world ranking is expected to be released August 11, 2016.
