Shocking: Bank manager steals N14m from dead woman

The branch operations’ manager of a new generation bank (name withheld) has been arrested for allegedly conniving with a suspected fraudster, Anthony Okpala, to steal N14 million from two customers’ accounts.

They were accused of diverting N4 million from an account belonging to a deceased woman, Oluremi Egunjobi and N10 million from an account belonging to a United Kingdom-based man, Rabiu Lawal.
The deal was allegedly perfected between September and November 2015, while the money was withdrawn from the accounts within the same period.
The police said the 41-year-old Okpala paraded himself as Lawal’s business partner and allegedly connived with the bank’s manager to withdraw N10 million from Lawal’s account in tranches.
Okpala and the bank manager were arrested by policemen from Ikoyi on Thursdy August 11, at the Ebute Meta magistrates’ court, where the former was allegedly facing another fraud trial.
They were arraigned before Magistrate P A Adekomaya of Igbosere magistrates’ court, on Thursday August 11, on seven counts bordering on forgery and fraud, who granted them N3 million bail with two sureties each in the like sum and adjourned till September 6.
Meanwhile, five persons have been jailed over kidnap and conspiracy in Delta state .
The convicts; Fidelis Ochuko, Kelvwe Opuoma, Kelly Jonathan, Kevwe Itedjere and Joseph Enakpodia were charged for conspiracy and kidnapping.
Daily Sun reports that the court sentenced them to five years each for count one (conspiracy to commit kidnapping) and another five years each for count two (kidnapping).
