AKHA Passed Revenue Administration Bill into Law, Call Stakeholders to Support - Speaker Barr. Onofiok Luke

Honourable colleagues, let me use this opportunity to thank you my colleagues for putting in time and energy in the legislative process which has made the passage of this bill.
With this passage, we have set a motion in process that will strengthen the State’s Internal Revenue Service for optimal performance and efficient delivery on its core mandate.

The present economic reality has made it imperative that we look inward to ensure that we do not only explore avenues to shore up the revenue base of the state, but also effectively administer this revenue.
Our legislative action today is a major step towards bringing to bear our commitment to Akwa Ibom people in the second legislative year as captured in my remarks at the end of the first year, where we promised to enact legislations that will help boost our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the face of dwindling economy and reduction in accrual from the Federation Account to the State.
The next major concern now is for us to make laws that will create more sources from which revenue will be generated. Our legislative process in this regard had already commenced.
As we are presently considering some member bills aimed at boosting our Internally Generated Revenue, I call on all stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom project to support this effort of ours.
Once again, I want to thank you all!
