The All Progressives Congress (APC) Akwa Ibom State Governorship candidate in the 2015 general election, Obong Umana Umana has congratulated former Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Mr Nsima Ekere on his appointment by President Mahammadu Buhari as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. When confirmed by the Senate, Ekere is expected to take over from Mrs Ibim Semenitari, who held sway in acting capacity.
Speaking exclusively to the Soso Connect, an associate of the Akwa Ibom APC leader said Umana extends his felicitation to Obong Nsima Ekere and described the appointment of the Ikot Abasi born politician as meritorious and well deserved, saying that the new Managing Director designate has the experience, expertise, competence, capability and patriotic zeal to bring about the much expected change needed towards repositioning the commission towards meeting the yearnings and expectations of the Niger Delta people by ensuring that the commission plays its key role as the foremost interventionist agency set up by the Federal government to solve the numerous challenges facing the Niger Delta region.
He recalled the patriotic disposition of Ekere when he teamed up with other like minds in the G22 Akwa Ibom Governorship Candidates to champion the cause for the liberation of Akwa Ibom State in the build up to the 2015 Governorship election, as well as the numerous support Nsima rendered to the party in the struggle to ensure that Akwa Ibom people choose their leaders as well as his credentials as a promoter of democracy, good governance and the rule of law.
He noted with delight that with Ekere's ascension to the helms of affairs at the NDDC, the commission will witness a more robust synergy between governments at all levels, development partners as well host communities as all stakeholders collectively come together towards finding a lasting solution to the Niger Delta question towards ensuring that lasting peace reigns in the region to achieve regional peace and development as well as national growth and prosperity.
He advocated teamwork and cooperation among major stakeholders to ensure the new NDDC management succeeds in its mandate and mission. Umana commended President Mahammadu Buhari for accepting the nomination of Nsima Ekere who he described as a team player, bridge builder and an astute administrator.
In a related development, the Akwa Ibom APC Youth Wing have commended the President for accepting the party's nomination of Obong Nsima Ekere as the new Managing Director of the NDDC. In a statement in Uyo, a representative of the youth, Mr. Anthony Bassey thanked the President for being a man of honour and integrity and for fulfilling his pledge of nominating an Akwa Ibom indigene to complete the tenure of state as Managing Director of the commission, declaring that the President's action is a demonstration of his character as a man of integrity whose word is his bond and a testimony of Buhari's love for Akwa Ibom people.
"We are grateful to President Mahammadu Buhari for accepting one of us to complete Akwa Ibom's tenure as Managing Director of the NDDC. We are pleased that at last the people and the party's choice emerged as the MD of the commission. The President's action is a testimony to the fact that he is a man of his words and an undisputable man of integrity. Not only has he fulfilled his promise to appoint an Akwa Ibom person to fill in the void in the commission but he allowed the choice of the party to emerge which is commendable"
"I am pleased that after much wait, Mr President has through his action made Akwa Ibom people have a sense of belonging in his administration and Nsima Ekere's appointment is a demonstration that he (Buhari) carries the party along. We are optimistic that Obong Nsima Ekere will bring his wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of his duty in order to restore peace in the Niger Delta region and ensure that development thrives in the region through projects that will impact positively on the lives of the people as well as empowerment that will enhance capacity for sustainable development. We are happy President Buhari considered our nominees and we are thankful to the leader of the party in the state, Obong Umana Umana for nominating Nsima", he declared.
The youth leader reiterated the commitment and determination of Nsima Ekere towards achieving peace, stability, economic growth and development of the region and called on all youths in Akwa Ibom state and the region to give the new management the maximum support and cooperation to succeed.
Mr. Ekere has a degree from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka. He worked in the private sector doing estate evaluation and real estate development. In 2008, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the investment and industry promotion agency for the Akwa Ibom State government. In 2011 he was nominated to be the Deputy Governor alongside Godswill Akpabio before resigning his position
