COMPETITION ADDS VALUE
Barr Ini Ememobong
Yesterday's Olympic football finals brought to the fore the value that competition adds to the result.
Silver is unarguably more precious and valued than bronze in real life, but not when both are up as prices in a football competition.
Nigerians won bronze and celebrated more than Germans who won silver. Pls do not think that it's a Nigerian thing- those who come second in football usually wear long faces, while those who win bronze celebrate. The answer is simple- you must win to be adorned with the bronze while you loose to gain the silver.
The victory earned through competition creates a value that makes the bronze preferred to silver.
It's odd but true.
There are some political lessons embedded too.
Congratulations Brazil, Germany and NIGERIA.
